La compilation messa insieme da Cherry Red Records con la consueta cura, aggrega in questo bellissimo cofanetto costituito da tre CD, tutto il meglio di un’intera annata, tra le principali mutazioni dell’estetica punk, l’esplosione del power pop, il revival mod in odor di anni sessanta e la nuova psichedelia che arrivava da Liverpool e comprendeva band come gli Echo And The Bunnymen e i Teardrop Explodes di Julian cope, mentre il ritorno al passato diventa il sogno di band come The Barracudas e The Cannibals e il post punk comincia ad assumere, grazie a Siouxsie Sioux, Joy Division, Public Image LTD, Gang of Four, caratteristiche più angolari, oscure e di ricerca.
La raccolta Cherry Red intitolata 1979 Revolt Into style cerca di tratteggiare un anno in ebolizione, con molte direttrici e stimoli, mettendo insieme molti brani oscuri, band dimenticate, altre diventate leggendarie, altre invece destinate all’oblio nel giro di un singolo.
Ben 76 brani corredati di informazioni dettagliate con il consueto booklet illustrato che passa in rassegna la storia di ogni traccia, con tutti i riferimenti discografici e storici.
La raccolta è un vero must have per conoscere quella che sarebbe stata l’evoluzione della musica britannica alla vigilia degli anni ottanta, ma è anche una compilation che non può mancare nell’archivio di ogni DJ che si rispetti.
